Earlier this month we found out Mercedes-AMG is cooking up a Black Series version of the new GT but now AMG's boss Tobias Moers has confirmed another derivative is in the works, described as a street-legal GT3. Obviously, it will end up being a direct adversary to Porsche's 911 GT3 and will likely come out in a couple of years as Moers confirmed the GT3-spec AMG GT will be available in time for the 2016 season. The vehicle will pack more power in a lighter body compared to the AMG GT S which offers 510 HP (375 kW) in a 1,570 kg (3,461 lbs) package. Moers hinted the output will probably rise to approximately 550 HP (404 kW) and by using lighter materials weight will be down between 80 and 100 kg (176 and 220 lbs). The more power less weight combo should shave off 0.2 seconds from the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run compared to the AMG GT S which means the higher specification model will do the sprint in 3.4 seconds while top speed will likely remain the same at 193 mph (310 km/h).
